Garrett Brown, inventor of the Steadicam, a lightweight stabilizer that gives camera operators a steady hand when on the move to capture a shot, has undertaken a new project. He has invented the Zeen, a wheelchair that allows the user to stand up or sit down. “Being upright is great for your cardiac, your bone density, your limbic system, your digestive system. And it’s particularly valuable for your psychological well-being. To be up among your fellow humans is one of the things we hear most often that they love about this machine,” said Brown. He spent the last 10 years coming up with the design for the machine, which was inspired by visiting his then 97-year-old father in care facilities. Brown recently delivered a Zeen to Rome for Pope Francis.
