Following a tragic school shooting on Monday, March 27th, 2023, at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S., in which three children and three adults were killed, a local bookstore opened its doors to the community. Parnassus Books, an independent bookstore owned by author Ann Patchett is located just down the street from the school where the shooting happened. "We're not here to sell you books, we're here because we love you and we're your friends, and we're a place to come," Patchett remarked in a video on Twitter. She and her dog, Sparky, welcomed anyone who "didn't know what to do today" to come to the bookstore, hold a dog, just "be with us" and "just know that we care". In moments of tragedy, holding space to sit with the heartbreak and pain, is the first step to deeper healing and reconciliation.
