In Chicago, a doctor named Aleksandra Gmurczyk donated her own kidney to a woman in Virginia named Virginia. Dr. Gmurczyk is a nephrologist at Northwestern Medicine. "I'm so glad you got my kidney," she told Ginger. "And I can tell you’re going to take really good care of it." In the United States alone, over thousand people are on a waiting list for a kidney donation.
