In an effort to combat climate change, Detroit has come up with an ingenious plan to have its municipal buildings powered solely by solar energy. Detroit has come up with a 'win-win' idea to make the change from electricity to solar. The city needs 250 acres of solar panels in order to create 100% solar energy for their municipal buildings. Detroit has invited block clubs and neighborhoods to apply to host solar farms. Each solar farm needs to be between 10 to 50 acres, and for every solar acre, $25,000 in community benefits will be offered. Some of the benefits include solar power for nearby homes and parks and recreation improvements. According to Electrek.co., decisions to advance this project will be made in the fall and they are excited to see how it rolls out.
