On June 17, 2023, nearly two years of being trapped in a Louisiana pond, a mother dolphin and her calf were released into the ocean. The Audubon Coastal Wildlife Network believes mom and baby became stuck in the pond system near Grand Isle in 2021 during Hurricane Ida. Video released by the Audubon Nature Institute shows wildlife experts hauling the dolphins out of the pond, where they were transported by van and carefully released into the Gulf of Mexico.
