Providing palliative care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., is always challenging, and has become even more so during the Covid-19 pandemic, when patients are unable to be with family and friends. "To deal with the complexity of emotions frontline workers and patients experience, the nursing staff has turned to music and songwriting," the Associated Press reports. "Nurse and singer songwriter Megan Palmer said the nurses use music and their voices to calm and comfort people.... In conjunction with House of Songs, a songwriters' collaborative nonprofit, Palmer gathered medical staff on the unit to co-write songs to share with patients."
