Supporting a friend who had lost her mother, Jennifer Simonic and Masey Kaplan discovered two unfinished blankets among her things -- and finished them. Inspired, they launched Loose Ends, which connects skilled volunteers -- known as 'finishers' -- with people who have incomplete knitting or crochet projects. There are now around 17,000 finishers in 60 countries. Alfredo brought a crocheted leaf which his younger sister had wanted to make into a blanket; a woman in New Jersey designed a blanket around it. And a quilt project brought comfort to a young girl whose mum died in a car crash. "The woman's best friend submitted the quilt to be finished so that the girl would be able to wrap herself up in her mother's creation."
