Racism is so senseless than middle school kids are calling it out. On a positive note, we might be at a perfect tipping point, where the fear and anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic, the distrustful social media environment and recognition and vocalization of the injustices of racism are leading us to create a world where most recognize that being kind to each other may be the best path to healing and progress. A 6th grade podcast club from New York City's Chinatown neighborhood won NPR's Student Podcast Challenge with an episode called "Masked Kids," which NPR describes as "both a time capsule and a cautionary tale about life in the time of the coronavirus." Starting with Covid vocabulary in Mandarin, they chronicle the webs of misinformation that have impacted their community, moments of prejudice as the virus broke out and a closing reminder: "Please be kind to one another."
