It was when her daughter didn’t see any hope for the future that the idea for Futurific Studios was born as a place that would present a positive vision of the future, says activist and philanthropist Kathryn Murdoch. She wanted to tell the stories of a ‘protopia’ -- a realistic, better tomorrow, as opposed to the dystopias her daughter was seeing in young adult novels and films and television shows. Its first production is the PBS series, A Brief History of the Future, hosted by company co-founder and futurist Ari Wallach, who travels the world to meet people finding solutions. What's next for Futurific, Murdoch says, is a series of graphic novels that show people working together to make a better future for our children.
