A young man in the West African nation of Benin is harnessing renewable energy to create jobs in isolated rural areas. Dieudonné Mahuwêna Setonde was working as an electrical installation technician when he saw that many households lacked access to the conventional power grid. His Technology for Environmental Protection Africa now has 16 technical employees who help the community access clean and sustainable energy, and have trained over 200 youths. The government’s Youth Inclusion Project trains more than 500 young people in renewable energy trades, and the National Agency for Employment Promotion is partnering with the Academy of the Higher School of Renewable Energy Trades to train and professionally integrate 1,000 young people in the trades.
