After Lone Sorensen from Northern Roots Market Garden in Yellowknife saw some of the cabbages that Alaskan friends had grown, she ordered cabbage seeds and started a competition on social media in the NWT. Not all the cabbages survived. "Some were eaten by rabbits, some of them were vandalized," she said. "I had a big cabbage growing in another garden and it was just gone." The biggest cabbage, grown in her garden, was just under 27 pounds. She sold half to a gardener in Whatì who likes to make cabbage soup, and donated the other half to the Yellowknife Women's Society. Each of the two winners of the competition won $100 worth of garden supplies from Northern Roots plus an hour-long garden consultation.
