Running through a forest, Andy ‘Barts’ Barton had an epiphany. Barts is one of 5,000-plus men who regularly attend Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity that offers free, peer-to-peer support groups across the UK. Founded in 2016 to provide a safe space for men to talk about their feelings, it was named after Andrew Roberts, who killed himself aged 23. Since the first event was held in Halifax, Yorkshire with nine men, it has since grown into a national charity with more than 200 groups meeting every Monday across the UK. As well as weekly indoor events, Andy’s Man Club has partnered with Forestry England on a series of outdoor running events that are open to everyone, not just men, and cater for all abilities.
