Mack and Lucille Thomason’s doublewide trailer and their well were severely damaged by Hurricane Helene last fall. The couple, retired in their 70s, were living in a borrowed camper when Baptists on Mission, an auxiliary of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, came to help. Baptists on Mission has completed repairs on 203 homes, is working on an additional 230 and has 500 more homes on a waiting list. It has six rebuild centers in Western North Carolina, where its volunteers, from Baptist churches across the US, can sleep while they work on homes. The organization is mainly funded by Baptist churches across the state.
