The world’s largest battery-powered ship, Hull 096, was launched in Tasmania. Built by shipbuilder Incat, this 426-foot-long (130 meters) vessel is the biggest electric vehicle of its kind ever built and will carry up to 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles using only battery-electric power between Argentina and Uruguay. Hull 096 has over 275 tons of batteries and an energy storage system (ESS) with more than 40 megawatt-hours of capacity, making it the largest battery installation ever on a ship. Power from the batteries drives eight electric water jets, allowing the ship to travel across the river in 90 minutes. The charging infrastructure will be built on both sides of the route to ensure seamless operation.
