A sleek and modern tiny home in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward will provide crucial housing for an individual experiencing homelessness. Designed by Tulane University School of Architecture students through the school’s award-winning URBANbuild design-build program, the one-bedroom tiny home duplex was created with pre-fab materials. It is one of nearly 20 tiny homes across the city designed by student volunteers through the URBANbuild program. Each home is outfitted with energy-efficient appliances and a washer and dryer, and has landscaped gardens featuring fruit trees and vegetables.“We aim to build pathways out of homelessness,” said Lou Anne White, executive director of nonprofit Louvis Services, which will manage the property. “With this duplex, we’re offering these individuals a chance to rebuild their lives in a safe, supportive environment.”
