The first fully electric garbage truck in Arctic Norway, bought by the local recycling company Masternes in the town of Vadsø a couple of weeks ago, is very quiet and peaceful, says driver Jan-Tore Ananiassen. The truck by the Swedish brand Scania weighs about 20 tons, is equipped with 4 batteries, and can drive up to 210 km. Jan-Tore says he usually uses about 50% of the car's battery charge by the end of his shift. The general manager of the recycling station in Vadsø, Hans Henrik Kristiansen, says it is about 200,000 NOK (€17, 300) cheaper to drive than a diesel truck. The other 24 trucks still operate on diesel. Norway is on course to completely remove petrol and diesel engine cars from the new car market.
