Since 1992, Pets For The Elderly has covered a portion of animal adoption costs for close to 100,000 seniors. Their program serves more 50 shelters in 34 states. Currently, the group wants more shelters across the US to know that costs like veterinary care, surgeries and more will be covered, if they apply for grants. They hope to have shelters in all 50 states join their efforts to bring pets into seniors' homes. As Susan Kurowski, executive director of Pets For The Elderly told TODAY, "Now especially with Covid, bridging this whole isolation gap with companionship is going to show -- when we look back -- as being key to so many people's mental wellness."
