Bee hotels, bee stops and a honey highway are part of a national pollinator strategy that is keeping the Dutch urban bee population steady, after a worrying decline. During a fourth national bee census, more than 11,000 volunteers counted more than 200,000 bees and hoverflies. As wild bees play a crucial role in pollinating food crops, the 2018 strategy aims to create more bee nesting sites and a strengthened food supply. The Netherlands is the world's second largest exporter of agricultural products after the US.
