The United States just approved the first major offshore wind farm in the US, a project slated to be built 12 miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. Over the last 20 years, the US has seen staggering increases in its capacity of solar panels and wind turbines but has lagged in offshore wind farms. This project will get the US in the game with its 800-megawatt capacity. It joins much smaller wind farms off the coasts of Virginia and Rhode Island.
