A volunteer team of scuba divers has begun a six-month, $250,000 effort to rid Lake Tahoe of underwater trash, collecting almost 200 pounds of garbage in their first dive. In earlier efforts begun in 2019 but delayed by the pandemic, they removed more than four tons. Filmmaker and diver Colin West founded Clean Up the Lake after learning divers had collected 600 pounds of garbage off Tahoe's eastern shore in 2018. The team plans to dive three days a week and will look for trash along the entire 72 miles of shoreline.
