Eighty-nine-year-old Delores Spencer of Virginia has been teaching math for the past 70 years, since 1954. After retirement in 1991, she tutored in an after-school program for 20 years, ensuring she kept up to date with the curriculum and teaching methods. And in 2020, she has taken her classes online, helping hard-pressed parents home-school the children. Her primary approach to teaching math is to eradicate the fear that is ingrained in so many students after facing so many years of bad teaching. To her, math is beautiful and her weekly lessons on Facebook have reached students across the US and the world who need it the most.
