Already in 2021, there has been amazing progress in renewable energy. Solar power will be coming to half a million people in remote northern Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria plans to install 500,000 solar panels, generating electricity for 25 million. Windpower capacity has grown 53 percent since 2020. Germany is producing ever more electric or hybrid vehicles, and its market share grew dramatically. South Korea's pension fund will stop investing in coal power, Spain aims to generate 74 percent of its energy renewably by 2030, and Romania will install 34 percent renewable electricity by 2032. Courts and shareholders are forcing change on oil companies such as Shell and Exxon, and Italian oil company Eni launched a corporate bond linked to sustainability.
