In 2020 and 2021, companies began placing more of an emphasis on employees' mental health by giving them more time off. Nike, the global apparel and shoe company, closed its corporate offices for a week, while Intel, Oregon's largest private sector employer, offered an additional 12 hours off for each half of 2021 to let employees refresh and recharge during the ongoing pandemic. In 2019, the World Health Organization recognized workplace burnout as a workplace hazard, meaning workers could seek medical help for something other than an illness or health condition.
