An Indian startup has developed a new and efficient design for sewage treatment plants that was inspired by the digestive system of cows -- and is so efficient that, unlike conventional plants, it does not need power to run. As cows digest grass, bacteria is broken down into gas, nutrients, water and waste. ECOSTP developed a treatment plant to mimic this process and has been invited to showcase its Zero Power Zero Operator system at the Museum of Design Atlanta in the US in November. “Since inception, we have saved 280 million liters of water and have saved 315 MW of power which is equivalent to powering 35 villages for a year,” says ECOSTP.
