Having a solar microgrid on the roof of their apartment building has helped the residents weather storms like Ida, Zeta and Uri. While the other residents of Louisiana were struggling with power outages for long hours, the mixed-income residents of St. Peter’s Apartments, half of whom are veterans, enjoyed near continuous electric supply. This supply comes free of cost for the residents, and the system is also built to track usage and reduce consumption. The nonprofit’s leaders help the community to build resilience. They also aim to share their learnings with other developments to ensure energy independence on a broad scale.
