Sasha Plotitsa is bringing socially responsible practices to his startup furniture business, Formr. Himself an immigrant from the Ukraine, Plotitsa has been committed to serving his community since he was a child. A few years back, after working a number of jobs, he decided to use acquired skills and his passion for creativity to design furniture using repurposed construction materials. He hired formerly incarcerated inmates facing employment obstacles to make the pieces. While he has faced challenges since opening the business in 2020, larger furniture companies like West Elm have taken notice and embraced the idea of design with a social mission.
