When Pan Jing was involved in a car accident in 2012, leaving her paralyzed below the waist and confined to a wheelchair, she thought her dance career was over. Now at 34 years old, she is still dancingin her wheelchair and is leader of Home of Hope, a Shanghai dance team made entirely of paraplegics. The group of dancers have already performed over 70 shows across the nation and aired on Chinese television. Initially into ballet, the team is expanding its choreography to include dances in jazz and hip-hop. Through dance, they wish to inspire courage among disabled communities and transform stigmas into acceptance. "I hope our wheelchair dance group can bring people courage," Jing says. "And let them know that life in a wheelchair can also have many possibilities."
