Construction on a water park in Bunbury, Australia, has been delayed to allow a pair of pied oystercatchers to raise their chicks. Their nest was discovered before construction was set to begin on a new splash park at a popular beach. The City of Bunbury said construction would begin once the family has taken flight. Sue Kalab, convenor of BirdLife in Bunbury, welcomed the decision, noting that the nesting birds are vulnerable because their eggs are well camouflaged and they nest on the ground. But the birds don't hang around once hatched.
