The International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) declared its commitment to the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 of sooner. Composed of 28 of the world's largest mining companies whose operations span over 50 countries, the agreement "represents a joint ambition from companies that make up one third of the global mining and metals industry." The companies are working to reduce or completely eliminate diesel trucks as well as researching technology to produce carbon-free steel.
