It was the largest group of Scottish beavers ever released in England when a family of beavers were released at Idle Valley Nature Reserve in the UK county of Nottinghamshire. The family, which includes four babies, known as kits, are the first beavers in the county for at least 400 years, and it is hoped they will "transform landscapes and create rich wetland habitat that supports many other creatures," said Janice Bradley, head of nature recovery for the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, which led the project. Beavers were hunted to extinction in the UK in the 1600s.
