The Pavilion School in Melbourne, Australia has come up with a scheme to get dropouts back into the education system. Working in a food van provides these youngsters with the skills and the opportunity to earn while educating themselves. “A non-judgmental, we’ll get through it together” approach is what the school and the Pavilion Food Van provide these teens, who have found it challenging to integrate into mainstream schools, according to Andrew Zarafa of Pavilion School. For Devon, one of the first participants of the program, who dreams of being a cook, it has shown a pathway to future employment and helped him to integrate with the community. “I actually like seeing the smile on a person’s face when I’m giving them their food," says Devon. “It’s warming and comforting."
