For twenty years, Luis Soriano has been delivering books to his students, who are scattered across the rugged terrain of Columbia's Magdalena Department. The schoolteacher dreamed of providing books to children who would otherwise not have access to them. With the help of his donkey, the Biblioburro program came to fruition in 1997. "People saw me as this half-insane teacher with some books and his donkey," he told Atlas Obscura. Today, Soriano has over 7000 books, a second donkey and an undying devotion to continue to serve his students.
