Frances Kompus, who celebrated her 100th birthday recently, still feels she has some way to go to catch up with her older sisters, aged 102 and 104. The three of them have practically lived their lives together, attending the same church, getting married, and tending to their families as busy farmers’ wives in the Kansas town of Atwood. Growing up on a farm, they had simple but active lives, helping to tend the animals and driving the tractor to plow or weed the fields. The three of them moved into adjacent apartments when they were widowed and meet every day to play cards and dominoes. Apart from eating simple but healthy food, “be social, walk a lot and keep going," are the keys to longevity, according to Kompus.
