Research shows that restoring coral reefs can revitalize ecosystems. In a study published in the Journal of Applied Ecology, scientists recorded different regions of Indonesian coral reefs and found that those that undergone restoration were almost as lively as naturally healthy ones. However, lead author Tim Lamont says that restoration only addresses part of the problem; if we really wanted to improve our coral ecosystems, we have to prevent the cause of their destruction in the first place.
