New Year's is a time for resolutions, and for the country of France its citizens will be making a collective resolution. Starting in 2022, France will begin to ban plastic wrapping for 30 items. Among them are fruits and vegetables. Given that nearly a third of fruits and vegetables are wrapped, the ban would prevent billions of single-use plastic items from being made each year. The French government will also be implementing a requirement later this year for public spaces to provide water fountains in order to reduce plastic bottle usage. Publications will also need to find wrapping alternatives and fast-food restaurants may not offer plastic toys.
