Jason Young's mission is to help people get rid of their 'Shakesfear' and connect with the bard's plays at a human level. His group, the Rustic Mechanicals, is West Virginia's only touring Shakespeare troupe, planning to stage 5 different plays in 60 days around West Virginia and surrounding states. The so-called Rust Belt stands to lose out culturally with the economic downturn when people leave town in search of jobs and Young is determined not to let that happen. He has brought in director Jim Warren to help interpret the plays to the audience's tastes. Making the language accessible and taking the plays to schools are some of the techniques used to bring back the bard's plays from the crushed velvet stages to the level of popular entertainment and fun that they were originally meant to be.
