A Manitoba woman has turned snowbanks into a blooming sign of support for Ukraine. Karen Hiebert used stencils and non-toxic watercolor paint to create a garden of sunflowers on the snowbanks along her driveway, dressing it up with something that reminded her of spring and would make her neighbors smile. Sunflowers, the national flower of Ukraine, have emerged as a global symbol of solidarity for the country and its resistance against Russia's military invasion. Hiebert, whose mother-in-law is Ukrainian, was inspired by seeing a video of a Ukrainian woman demanding that an armed Russian soldier take her sunflower seeds. "Like most Winnipeggers and Manitobans, I have many friends, other relatives and neighbors and co-workers who are of Ukrainian ancestry. It's just such a huge part of our community."
