The BBC will air composer Maddalena Casulana's lost madrigals on International Women's Day. Her groundbreaking pieces have not been heard in 400 years. Casulana was the first female composer to publish her own work at a time when women were a rarity in the field of music. Between 1568 and 1583, three of her collections were published and onlyone of them survived. Now a further 17 madrigals have been found and added to her small surviving repertoire. Twelve of her madrigals will premiere on March 8th to celebrate women worldwide.
