After 697 days, the state of Western Australia has at last reopened its borders allowing family and friends to reunite for the first time since the onset of the pandemic; it had closed its borders to domestic and international visitors alike on April 5, 2020. About 5,000 people are expected to arrive in Western Australia within the first 24 hours of the border reopening and 27,800 over the following days.
