When the luxury liner Oceanos started taking in water on rough seas near the coast of South Africa in 1991, Moss Hills and his wife Tracy, both musicians from Zimbabwe, along with Julian, a magician from England, suddenly found themselves responsible for everyone on board. The captain was in deep shock. Almost all of the crew and senior officers had escaped in a lifeboat. With no training whatsoever, Moss managed to lower a number of lifeboats filled with passengers, put out a mayday call, and assist in a helicopter rescue. Moss and Tracy were the last to be saved. When the helicopter carrying Moss touched down on the grass, cruise passengers ran towards him singing and cheering and reaching out to hug him. "I started to choke up and sob," Moss says. "And then I collapsed."
