On her days off, Las Vegas emergency room nurse Brooke Johns returns to Southern Hills Hospital. There, she works to pamper patients who are going through tough times -- from post-op recovery to respiratory problems. As she brushes or braids their hair, she offers a listening ear. Sierra Stein was hospitalized for a month after experiencing complications from Covid-19. "That physical touch and that interaction means so much when you're so helpless and so alone," Stein said. “It would just make me feel so loved and cared for.” Johns has provided hair care for more than 100 patients since she began volunteering a year ago. She says she wants to set an example for her kids by serving others and helping alleviate pain.
