In Victoria, Canada, a $350,000 grant was given to the Food Connections project to boost efforts on the part of The Victoria Community Food Hub Society and The Mustard Seed Food Bank. The aim was to create a link between produce donated by grocery stores to their distribution center and certified kitchen. As much as 800 to 1,200 pounds of food are rescued daily, providing food for around 4,500 people every month. "All of this food was destined for the landfill," Treska Waatson told the Times Colonist. "And instead we're able to direct it to the community and folks in need."
