An Australian father and son turned a dilapidated boat that took up too much space in their backyard into a floating bus for a school on the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. Boat builders Dean Frith and his son Beau thought about breaking the boat up, or repairing it and selling it. Then Dean had the idea of turning it into a multipurpose floating bus for a school on the island of Aore, where Dean had volunteered four years ago. The school's current boat was slower and more suited to transporting larger items, he said. Once complete, the boat will be loaded into a shipping container—after being filled with building materials, clothing, or anything else of use. But that could still be a year away because Dean and Beau are "chipping away at it just using spare materials and things that we have available to us."
