During Covid-19, many Chinese-Americans in New York found themselves in positions of food insecurity. One elderly woman hadn't had a meal in 7 days. That's when Tsai and Chang, co-owners of a restaurant, partnered with local restaurants, farms, and volunteers to start distributing free meals across New York. Their mutual aid project, Heart of Dinner, distributes over 500 meals to the elderly each week. Several other mutual aid networks supporting Asian American Pacific Islander communities have sprung up across the country as well, directly helping the Asian diaspora most acutely affected by the pandemic.
