The Western Australian government has announced that it will close its last two state-owned coal generators by the end of the decade and is allocating $3.8 billion to help the transition into renewable energy sources. The money spent would be repaid in the long run, as maintaining unrenewable energy sources would ultimately increase household power bills by a significant amount. "Western Australia will implement a sensible, managed transition to a greater use of renewables for electricity generation, while ensuring we maintain electricity reliability as a priority, state premier Mark McGowan said.
