Crystal Dunn, a single mom of three, recently won $146,351.74 in the Kentucky Lottery. She went to the lottery office the next morning to collect her winnings and as she drove home, she thought about what she wanted to do with it. Before considering how she would spend the windfall on herself or her family, Dunn said, "I thought I want to share this with others in some way." She stopped at her local Meijer grocery store and bought 20 $100 gift cards and proceeded to hand them out to random shoppers in the store—none of whom she knew. The 20 lucky recipients were stunned by the surprising gesture. Dunn was determined to pay it forward, she said, "because I know what it’s like to struggle." At the age of 9, she moved from foster home to foster home. At 16, she ran away and has taken care of herself since then. "No matter what life you have, you do have a choice, and you can make decisions to make it better and to make a positive impact on others’ lives. You just have to push forward," she said.
