For this 73-year-old woman and her bantam dog, talking to a stranger turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Joette Tavernise never could have thought that she was only one paycheck away from being on the streets, but for the last 2 years, her life has been a search for shelter. A chance meeting with Marceil Handkammer, however, provided her not only with financial support but also with the comfort of having a good friend. With the assistance of Marceil and the companionship of her dog Boogie, Joette found the strength to brave all the obstacles life threw at her and now has a temporary home.
