Not many 12-year-olds can say that they have their own vegetable stand. But for Brayden Nadeau of Minot, Maine, he does just that. At the age of 2, he helped his Grandpa Herrick steer a John Deere tractor on the farm. He always wanted to be a farmer, as he once shared in his kindergarten class. And for the past two years, Nadeau has been helping to plant, tend, and harvest crops on the 25-acre farm. He then sells the fresh produce such as corn, cabbage, and tomatoes at his Brayden Vegetable Stand. In 2021, he had enough savings to set up an official $7,000 storefront at the edge of the farm. During the summer, Nadeau works 10 hours per day on both the farm and store. When school is in session, however, he works four hours. Brayden says he keeps most of earnings in savings, but every now and then, he uses his savings to make improvements to the vegetable stand. As for Grandpa Herrick, he jokes, "I’ve become his employee. I taught him the basics, and he took it from there."
