Leanne Fan, a 14-year-old from San Diego, California, invented a device that can treats mid-ear bacterial infections in children. The device, called Finsen Headphones, uses machine learning and blue light therapy. They can potentially prevent up to 60 percent of hearing loss among children around the world. The headphones also come with an added benefit of playing music. Her invention won the grand prize award at the 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
