Work has begun on a high-profile transmission project that will funnel clean power directly into New York City. While upstate New York produces sufficient amounts of renewable energy, New York City is still mostly relying on fossil fuels. Environmentalist are divided about the project: while some are concerned about the emissions from hydro dams and reservoirs and their history of destroying rivers and damaging indigenous communities, others have voiced strong support.
